The kiddie pool of UE4 books

While I wanted a nice overview of UE4, this is a pretty weakly cobbled together set of photocopied (and at times misaligned on the page) readme files. It's honestly worse than readme files, because of my expectations that it be more book and less "three ring binder of chicken scratch without the rings, binder, or point".

To be fair, you can gain some basic, introductory knowledge from it, if you're completely unfamiliar with UE4, but by no means a resource for developers beyond just a half hour of reading on the can.

It's good to have a book in my hands but this ...

I found the exact same tutorials online for free. Printing errors, a couple pictures are unrecognizable. It's good to have a book in my hands but this was rushed out. Sorry to Ryan Shah, because he is a straight forward writer and makes things clear.

Sophmoric Presentation, The elite in package design.

If you can get past the babe with the big red lips and her toungue, its not a bad book. The cover, presentation and chapter pages do little justice to the great design examples contained therein.

How dare I, but I took a razor blade an 5 minutes and improved the book so I can now leave it out for my clients.

I would like to have seen success/failure results. Did the package/product sell?

Ernest Adams is a game design consultant, teacher, and the author of the classic Fundamentals of Game Design, Second Edition, the companion volume to this title. A Must Read for Solo Indie Designers/Developers

I am a solo indie designer/developer and have been reading a lot on how to design and develop games over the past 3 years. It has been part time as I work full-time overseas. I have read numerous articles and books on game design to understand the process. Most of the material though I found assumed you were a student looking to work for a AAA studio; designing for a particular genre; or already working in a AAA studio and needing to polish your knowledge. They got me started, but I had to filter a lot of the info so it applied to my situation and needs. I came across this book while reading another book on game design. I am very glad to have purchased and read it. Unlike the others, it is genre neutral and focuses on the basics that a designer needs to understand to have a solid foundation. The writing is clear and the concepts presented have several examples across different genres to demonstrate how they apply regardless of genre. The book also takes the player-centric approach to game design. It also introduces a tool called Machinations which is used to test how the core mechanics work. That alone was a great thing to learn and has helped me immensely in my understanding of how to design games. I would highly recommend this book for any student of game design (formal or informal), especially people like me who want to take a hobby to a possible vocation.

Very advanced but great if youll do the work

Ive only gone through this once but I will be going through it several more times.

There are almost no books on game mechanics but this one makes up for it. It really goes into depth on what an economy is in a game and the effect of positive and negative feedback.

There is of course a healthy amount of mechanics theory and plenty of game examples (across all major genres). However where this book really shines is the machinations system.

Be warned machinations is no joke and will take some dedicated work to learn and practice. However machinations is a powerful prototyping feature that can help you make a good starting point for game balance and testing out plausible game mehanics or there effects.

Great book just know it is very advanced and there is a learning curve!

The third edition represents primarily an updating – of taxonomy, physiology, mycotoxin production and ecology. Changes in taxonomy reflect the impact that molecular methods have had on our understanding of classification but, it must be said, have not radically altered the overall picture. The improvements in the understanding of the physiology of food spoilage fungi have been relatively small, reflecting perhaps the lack of emphasis on physiology in modern mic- biological science. Much remains to be understood about the specificity of particular fungi for particular substrates, of the influence of water activity on the growth of many of the species treated, and even on such basic parameters as cardinal temperatures for growth and the influence of pH and preservatives. Since 1997, a great deal has been learnt about the specificity of mycotoxin production and in which commodities and products-specific mycotoxins are likely to occur. Changes in our understanding of the ecology of the included species are also in most cases evolutionary. A great number of papers have been published on the ecology of foodborne fungi in the past few years, but with few exceptions the basic ecology of the included species remains.

The first and second editions of Fungi and Food Spoilage established a reputation as the foremost book on foodborne fungi. This completely revised and updated third edition is an invaluable reference for food microbiologists investigating fungal spoilage and sources of mycotoxin contamination in foods.

The introductory chapters of the book deal with the ecology of food spoilage and give an overview of how food processing, packaging and storage affect fungal growth. Subsequent chapters cover the fundamentals of classifying and naming fungi and current methods for isolation and enumeration, including general and special purpose media, incubation conditions, etc. The major part of the book provides keys, descriptions and illustrations of all yeasts and moulds commonly encountered in foods. Characteristics of the species, including their ecology and potential for mycotoxin production, are also included.

The broad and practical nature of the coverage will appeal to microbiologists, mycologists and biotechnologists in the food industry, academic, research and public health institutions.

Dr John Pitt and Dr Ailsa Hocking are both Honorary Research Fellows at CSIRO Food Science Australia, North Ryde, NSW, Australia.

I just love this book. I purchased and used this book for an advanced Anatomy class and I was able to better visualize the anatomical structures from what was learned in lecture, then apply that information effectively in the lab.

Stranded With the Cyborg - What a thrilling ride!

*** I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review ***

Penelope Isabella Aaron (PIA...yeah, that too!) had crossed paths with Brock Mann 10 years earlier, and now regrets what she did to him. That doesn't mean she wants him as a bodyguard again, though. But when they're forced together in life-threatening circumstances, she gets to see him in a different light. Brock has suffered much in those 10 years, and initially views his latest "mission" with disdain. They're both in for some big surprises.

I love Science Fiction Romance and especially cyborg stories and, holy moly, does Stranded With the Cyborg deliver! It's short but ever so
heartwarmingly poignant...and very steamy. I truly felt connected to Pia and Brock because their anguish and hurt is so vividly realised and
relatable, which makes their HEA all the more awesome...and so deserving.

All of the elements I enjoy in Sci-Fi Romance and space opera are there: adventure-filled space travel, well-balanced and descriptive world building, political intrigue (no, actually I hate politics, but when it's set in outer space, it's enthralling!), engaging secondary characters whose actions help to propel the plot forward at high speed and, of course, a likeable kick-ass girl and a very sexy guy-turned-cyborg who's almost hot enough to melt his metal parts.

Stranded With the Cyborg is Book 1 in the Cy-Ops Sci-Fi Romance series, and the next book, and hopefully more, can't come soon enough for this Sci-Fi Romance aficionado. Definitely on my auto-buy list.

I almost didn't get this book after reading one of the reviews stating that the heroine, Penelope, was a real brat. I hate those types of characters. But, much to my surprise, she wasn't a brat at all. Yes, she had been one years before as a teenager, and had done something awful BUT when the book started she was an adult. As an adult she knew she had done an awful thing as a kid and had the grace to admit to it and apologize at just about the first opportunity. She didn't avoid it or deny it or even try to ignore it, the way a brat would. So I'm glad I read this book even though I thought I might not like the main character, she actually ended up being a lovely person who had made some mistakes but who had the grace to face them.

Take a young woman finding her place in the universe and a former shunned soldier turned Cyborg and what do you get? Stranded with the Cyborg! The first book in the Cy-Ops Sci-fi series, by Cara Bristol. This entertaining story is fast-paced and full of action from the beginning. The universe created by the author draws you in and continues to hold your attention to the last page. This is Brock and Penelope’s story of forgiveness and love.

Penelope grew up in politics, her mother served as President of the Alliance of Planets. She suffered her teenage years with a security detail. Brock was assigned to protect her until she lied about him. She knew it was wrong but wanted a reaction from him instead of the typical nod or short one word phrases. Since then she has excelled in her career and is now an ambassador at the first Alliance of Planets conference. When her mother confronts her to insist on a bodyguard, she takes off to the summit earlier than planned without her security detail.

Brock is a Cyborg. After a mission gone bad, he was recruited by Carter to join the Cy-Ops and his body became enhanced through different medical procedures. When Carter requests that Brock handle Penelope’s security for the summit, old feelings resurface. When he sees her again, there are feelings he doesn’t understand. He also knows that he is no longer a man, but is now a machine. Brock believes that he doesn’t deserve love or happiness, because he’s not human.

When the two once again connect, their chemistry sizzles and burns the pages as their story unfolds. There are several twists and turns you don’t expect. If you are looking for a new twist on science fiction romance try this book today!
